Cultural humility is an attitude of openness, self-awareness, and respect towards individuals from different cultures. It involves recognizing and challenging one's own cultural biases and being willing to learn from others with different backgrounds and experiences.
The First Responder culture has its shared values, and behaviors within professions like police, firefighters, paramedics, and dispatch communicators. The culture emphasizes teamwork, resilience, quick decision-making, and a sense of duty to protect and serve the community. This culture may involve a unique set of challenges and stressors due to the nature of the work that they do.
The Kentucky First Responder Peer Support Team interviews clinicians in the tri-state area and surrounding communities to ensure that they have the understanding and tools necessary to assist first responders in need.
