First Responder Chaplains serve in a non-denominational capacity providing spiritual support, as well as other aspects of health and wellness, and encouragement as needed to first responders and their families, helping them deal with the pressures of life and their profession. In addition, chaplains provide spiritual support and comfort to members of their community who are in crisis.

Spiritual Guidance
- The chaplain is available to help first responders and their families with spiritual needs.
- Assistance in emergency situations. Chaplains often respond to death scenes, accidents, or any incident where a first responder thinks a chaplain can bring comfort or assistance to someone dealing with a difficult or tragic situation.
- Chaplains frequently deliver death notifications alongside officers, assisting families by providing emotional support or spiritual guidance
- Conducting/Assisting at funerals. The chaplain is available to assist families with funeral arrangements and to officiate at the service or assist the family minister.
- The chaplain is available to assist with weddings when properly credentialed the chaplain is available to conduct weddings.
- The chaplain is available to provide pastoral care and counsel when necessary to assist first responders and their families and/or find appropriate resources for dealing with mental, emotional, or relational issues. Issues may include but are not limited to PTSD substance abuse or other critical incident stress management problems.
- Visitations with first responders and their families provide comfort and encouragement
- The chaplain may be called upon to be present at official functions to give invocations, dedicatory prayers, program services,etc.
